Thai has 5 tones. The same syllable spoken in a different tone is a completely different word!
The 5 Tones
1. Mid Tone — flat & steady
Your natural speaking voice. No rise or fall.

2. Low Tone — starts low, stays low
Slightly lower than mid. Like a gentle statement.

3. Falling Tone — starts high, drops
Start high and let your voice fall. Like saying "No!" firmly.

4. High Tone — above mid, slight rise
Start above your mid tone and rise slightly.

5. Rising Tone — dips then rises
Starts low, dips down, then rises. Like a questioning "really?"

🙏 Politeness Particles
Always end sentences with ครับ (khrap) if you're male or ค่ะ (kha) if female. This is the #1 way to sound polite instantly.
ขอบคุณครับ (khop-khun khrap) — Thank you (male)
ขอบคุณค่ะ (khop-khun kha) — Thank you (female)

🚫 No Verb Conjugation
Thai verbs never change! No past/present/future forms. You add time words instead.
กิน (gin) = eat, ate, will eat, eating — all the same!
Add เมื่อวาน (yesterday) or พรุ่งนี้ (tomorrow) for tense.

❓ Questions are Easy
Add ไหม (mai) to the end of any statement to make it a yes/no question.
อร่อย (a-roi) = delicious
อร่อยไหม? (a-roi mai?) = Is it delicious?
อร่อยไหม? (a-roi mai?) = Is it delicious?
🔢 Classifiers
Thai uses "classifiers" when counting objects — similar to English "two sheets of paper."
คน (kon) for people: สองคน = 2 people
ตัว (dtua) for animals: สามตัว = 3 animals
อัน (an) for small objects

💬 Mai Pen Rai
ไม่เป็นไร (mai pen rai) is the most Thai phrase ever — it means "no worries / it's okay / never mind." Use it constantly!
